National professional standards for accomplished primary teaching are being developed during 2009. A first draft of the capabilities and descriptors is available for consultation until the end of July.

AAMT has been invited by Teaching Australia to collect and share feedback on the draft standards specifically from the perspective of mathematics educators. This is being done through a variety of face-to-face activities conducted by AAMT's affiliated associations in the states and territories, as well as by online means. (Contact the AAMT if you would like to find out who is coordinating the workshop(s) being held in your state or territory). Additional information about the development of the standards is available through the project website.

How to provide feedback

You are invited to provide some overview comments on the draft standards, as well as specific advice if you have any, through an online survey. Your response to that survey can remain completely anonymous; you can choose to identify yourself if you are willing to contacted to clarify your input, or to be invited to take part in some further consultation.

Feedback on the draft is due by 29 July – no extensions are possible.
